While We’re at It

Tracht is the word for the traditional clothing that used to be common in the alpine countryside. Women wore Dirndl (deern-del), and men wore Lederhosen (lay-dehr-hoh-zen). Although those forms of dress are now reserved for special occasions, you are likely to see women wearing Trachtenmode (Tracht -inspired fashion) in southern Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
